“Test Drive” Your Home Before You Buy

haunted

It's October 1st and the press is circling like vultures asking for interviews, ghost hunts, and tours of our haunted listings. We are ambivalent about Halloween - we are always happy to share our experiences, but doing so just to provide a quick thrill doesn't feel good. We take our work with Past Life Homes seriously. Our clients are often in emotional turmoil and are extremely protective  of their families, their circumstances, and their privacy. The work we do is no joke. While interesting, it is not always fun. Working with family members and survivors of tragedies - murders, suicides, hauntings - is … [Read more...]

What is a Stigmatized Home?

red brick

The Hagley Group has worked with stigmatized real estate in their Past Life Home division for a number of years.  Our clients are always fascinated by this aspect of our business, and frequently asked what is a stigmatized home? Stigmatized homes are properties which buyers or tenants may shun or avoid for reasons that are unrelated to its physical condition or features. The seller has a duty to disclose  history of the property in most states. If you are in doubt, disclose, disclose, disclose! The stigma can be demonstrable (physical) or emotional.  The types include:   Public stigma : When the … [Read more...]

Four Bedrooms, Three Baths, One Ghost

If you had the opportunity to buy a haunted home, would you? What if it were the scene of a horrific crime? What if you could buy the home at a deep discount? Would you live in it? Would you buy it as an investment property and rent it? Would you disclose the haunting or the crime to your tenant ? Even if you legally did not have to disclose it? Are you the type of person that would show up to view the home just out of curiosity? As a stigmatized Realtor selling homes like these, I usually do not disclose upfront that these homes have a past. Why? I've always felt that it could drive potential buyers away. Of course … [Read more...]

My First Haunting

rome

When I was six years old, my Dad bought a home in the village/township of  Rome. Ohio. It was quiet and rural, and I still remember my first best friend - Ann Arnold, who's home sat right on the bank of the Ohio River. I loved the neighborhood, loved my friends on the street, and I loved playing in my yard. However, I did not like being inside my home. It was dark, creepy, and had a strange smell. I went to first grade at the school in the photo. In 1967 it was huge and full of life.. Now it sits old and gloomy, abandoned like the dreams of most of us that grew up in the area. But when I was a kid, it was the center of … [Read more...]

Got Ghosts? “House cleaning” tips

Not Haunted

I received a call from a homeowner in Dublin, Georgia a couple of weeks ago, who had a resident ghost that liked to taunt their dog and create mayhem for the folks that encountered it. I can not get out to the East Coast for a few weeks, so I thought some general "house cleaning" tips may come in handy for  this seller and others in the same situation. The first thing I always recommend it to protect yourself - whatever that means to you. Some folks believe in God, some believe in a universal energy, some have items that they carry with them that bring them luck. I happen to be a Christian, so I pray and picture myself … [Read more...]

Haunted Hospital to Become Senior Housing

lV h

Notoriously haunted Linda Vista Community Hospital, originally the Santa Fe Railroad Hospital, was built in 1904 in the Los Angeles neighborhood now known as Boyle Heights. The hospital was one of four hospitals run for railroad employees, and was designed as a resort type facility with Jersey cows, chickens, and a garden to provide patients with the freshest milk, butter, eggs, poultry and vegetables. The railroad sold the building to a health care company in the 1980s, and as the surrounding neighborhood declined, so did funding. The hospital cut operation expenses in an effort to stay open, but the funding cuts only … [Read more...]

Investigation: Day One

tree2

I pull up to the home at 10AM, and from the curb I can feel the house pulsating with energy. There is a camera crew already setting up to document this event, and I am waiting for my psychics, medium, and paranormal investigator to show up. I am a sensitive, which means I receive information beyond the normal five senses. Rather than just feeling when being touched, I sometimes feel others' emotions.  Sometimes I see and feel spiritual energy. I just know things. As I make my way up the walk to greet my crew, I know that the home across the street to the right has a strong connection to the home we are … [Read more...]

Past Life Homes Sells Hollywood and Beyond

cindi

In Hollywood these next few days to take a look at a house just south of here that has some very active entities. It’s been called a portal to hell. This trip is a bit of a dichotomy. I am staying in a lovely hotel on Hollywood Boulevard with bright lights, energetic people, and a vibe that is electric and alive. Tomorrow, my team and I go into the world of the dead, trying to make sense of the spirits and negative energy that seem to have been around this home and the surrounding land for the last 200 years. Unlike other consultations, this home has consumed me. I have felt energy emanating from this home for … [Read more...]
